Ill Repute - What Happens Next

 Well the cold is upon us here in NoWhere Kansas.  We had a blast of it a couple of weeks ago but that was just a taste and now I think it's here to stay for a while.  We're pretty tight on money so the furnace doesn't kick on until it gets below 60 degrees Fahrenheit [C = .56(F-32)] or 15 degrees Celcius.  Around here it's about sweaters, blankets, gray days, movies and chili.  I'm not complaining because I can't even imagine how cold it's going to get in those far away nothern places that have been hitting up MR. Since this is a hardcore post I wanted to direct you to another blog and check out a band called Citizens Arrest.  I don't have any hard copies of their stuff so go here, http://mercenarioneverdie.blogspot.com/search?q=citizens+arrest .  He's got a really cool blog that tends to be more of that doomy sludgy type stuff but he wanders too. The election is over, but there's still a big buzz going on about it even on the music blogs.  In the comments on one, my buddy Erich over at Good Bad Music, suggested that people go check this site out, http://www.politicalcompass.org/ .  You guys should check that out and give yourself the test and see where you stand politically.  By no means a true gauge of what's inside but, let me know how that turns out for you, I was left libertarian (no surprise).  Well I already did an Ill Repute post way back when, http://mustard-relics.com/2008/05/30/ill-repute-oxnard-land-of-no-toilets/ and I got a ton of comments on that one.  Actually there was some turmoil there but it's all good.  One comment I got was that this album was better than that 7".  I don't know if I agree, but this is some of the better hardcore (Nardcore) out there.  I had this on a tape someone, maybe Kevin A., dubbed for me for a long time before I ever got it on vinyl.  When I finally did get it, it came with a 7" called Halloween Live.  I have both that and Halloween Live 2 that I will post another time.  This was their second release and is a little more polished than that 1st 7" but it doesn't let you down when it comes to that hardcore sound.  They were around until recently and may have reformed having done so several times but I don't think they really ever captured their original glory.  There is a Myspace, a short Wikipedia article, a KFTH thing and so on but this time I think I'll just let you do all that searching if you're really that interested.  This was re-released twice, once as We''ll Get Back At Them and another time as What Happened Then. Kind of a cool review here, http://www.punknews.org/review/4952 where they comment on this re-release, "Sometimes, when a label re-releases an album, they fuck it up by putting too much extra shit on it and ruining the short, fast, to-the-point hardcore punk that the original album was."  My two favorites on the original vinyl, which I have here, are Oxnard and the Cherokee Nation cover, but why don't you tell me what you think.

Terrible Lizards - Demo

 I was cruising through my bro Jason's Flickr site, checking out the wide variety of images he had and came across this one.  The deck is hanging up in the office at his work, DLXSF (a major skateboard distribution company).  How cool is that deck?  A combination of two of my favorite things, martial arts in the form of the godfather Bruce Lee and skateboarding.  I had a deck very similar in terms of shape and accessories back when, the kind you could get from Kmart.  Now a days it's all about Jet Li and Jackie Chan, along with new deck Jason got me, but this one is just too cool.  What was your first skateboard like?  That's my rendition of a terrible lizard from doing an image search.  This one goes way back for me into the late 70's.  A band I'm sure you've never heard of and you might think that's because they suck.  Let's call it a period piece. I always thought of them as a mix of Bowie and Devo, with a little rock and roll thrown in from that era.  I've metioned my friend Alex Wallace from elementary school on a few occasions and this band is linked to him.  His mom's best friend was a lady named Kitty who was a total trip.  She was young, 30ish, and married to this old guy Dwight who owned the Carnation company.  Super rich old dude with the trophy wife.  She had her own place somewhere in the hills of Studio City and would sometimes go visit her husband Beverley Hills.  In fact the most money I had ever seen at one time was a check for $250,000 he had written her that she had stashed in a cookie jar.  Kitty had this boyfriend, I think his name was Steve or something like that and this is his band the Terrible Lizards.  If I remember right this was the demo they had made to shop around to the record companies looking for a contract.  I really dug this when I was a kid and listening to it now I sort of have a soft spot for it still.  Martian Bastards is my favorite but Pants Are Too Tight is kind of cool too.  You might not appreciate this the way I do but let them take you back to the late 70's popular but on the edge sound.  Kind of a new wave, punk, pop, rock thing going on.  If anything the lyrics are pretty funny so they might be good for a laugh.  Let me know. Deadhorse - Boil(ing) & Feed Me

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S3SmbOLUKk0&w=560&h=315] It's election night and I guess as the band A State Of Mind sing in one of the songs on this post, "pull the knob and choose your slob".  That being said, and I've stayed away from the topic so far, I really hope we don't get another Republican president.  If you're rich, then definitely vote Republican and according to McCain, rich these days is 3 million a year.  My wife and I together are lucky if we take home 26 thousand a year and to be honest with you, I'm tired of rich folk getting richer.  I don't care where you live, I don't feel sorry for you if you're pulling in a 100 thousand a year and you still can't make it.  I'm tired of so many things I try not to think about it because it wears me down.  One of the things that I'm really tired of is the American people, ignorant, spoiled and balls to the wall selfish.  We do need serious change, but electing a president just scratches the surface.  In spite of the negativity, I'm still optimistic because I know there are good people out there who make a difference every day.  So on a positive note...

All five dogs, which is hard to get of them all together unless you have bones or something.  We don't walk them down there anymore after one of them got his foot run over by a truck.  That really sucked. Well I've already given you two Deadhorse posts, so these really are a bonus.  According to this, Metal Archives I only lack a demo they did in 1990 to have a discography. I think I've already said enough about these guys on two other posts so I'll just let you get to one of the best that I think metal has ever had to offer.
