...delicately and maybe not so gracefully, certainly rife with my own special brand of bogus blabbering, I've been doing this here Mustard Relics thing. It's been a great ride. This is post #391, with 3637 approved comments (half of which were mine), 100's of thousands of spam comments (not one has gotten thru), and over 310,000 unique visitors (although most of them were probably the spammers). Not sure what the accomplishment is, but having been a near dead, unemployed, divorced, loser drunk, ever day is a blessing. 10 years at this job, 7 years married and 8 years sober, life has been different for a while now and this blog has been a big part of it. No matter where I've been, music, to varying degrees, has been a passion, now so, more than ever. When this thing first started out, it was about, old stuff in my personal collection and related (or unrelated too) thoughts/recollections/bullshit. Lately I have found myself in the present, checking out the latest releases from the underground and even looking to the future, anticipating upcoming releases. Good to know that all the good tunes this world has to offer haven't been written yet.

Listening to the "Live Session With Aces International - Volume 2" featuring
Yellowman and Fathead. That duo constitutes one of only a few reggae acts I listen to, a mortal transgression to some, I know.
Fathead was an interesting character, shot to death in 1988 Miami, some kind of drug thing. He is pretty much just known as Yellowman's sidekick (at least in my mind), although he did release a few singles that are hard to come by. A review of a killer garage/psyche band outta England called The Pale Faces and No Comment's "Live on KXLU 1992" 7", a couple a 7"s from a killer Industrial band called ICK, a Reagan Youth live 7", Unter Den Linden's "Lost Tapes", three Humboldt posts; a band from the past, Letterbomb, featuring guys from Grimace and One Man Running, a band from right here and now, Lord Ellis, featuring guys that have played in bands like Garden Weasel, The Hitch, Sake, Grimace and Dragged by Horses, and hopefully an interview with Humboldt musician, artist extraordinaire and one of the reasons I started this site, Jeff Langdon. So 6 years down and I don't know how many more to go...as they say in the meeting halls, "one day at a time." Thanx to everyone who has commented and made this ride a little more interesting (and thanx to those shy little souls who just read/listen, without sharing their thoughts, you are appreciated too).
Labor Day weekend, if there was ever an important American holiday, it is this one. Representing so much struggle and here we are, about a hundred years later, heading back to those days. People don't even know what's good for them anymore and once again the least fortunate are demonized, while gluttony is glorified. Anyway, I procrastinated on my end of the month reports (even as I write this post), so I will be working this weekend. I'm making more than I have ever made before, still nowhere near middle class, and this is the most stressful job I have ever had, but I guess I shouldn't complain (at least not today).

Every once in a while, I buy records from another buddy of mine, Nevin, at his IFB Records...sometimes for dirt cheap. My turntable has been broke down for a minute, and ended up with a stack of records I hadn't listened to. Replaced my turntable recently, a broke down Technics, that just needed a belt, some tweaking and most importantly some TLC. So long story short, been spinning records and came across this band Rot in Hell, by way of their split 7" with Horders. These two tunes are lyrical and musical masterpieces, think, black metal meets 4AD, some really out there stuff...Nevin called it "dark folk". The band is actually a metallic hardcore band, but Discogs calls this record Neo-folk. Goes without saying, definitely share-worthy...

600 fucking posts baby! It took 7 1/2 years which makes this one of my biggest accomplishments. This place may not be God's gift to the music lover, but it is one music lover's attempt to enlighten and entertain (and I enjoy hearing the sound of my own voice). We don't get many comments these days, certainly not like we used to, but still lots of hits and bands are still dropping me notes to give their work a listen. Another one of those posts of random shit a virtual hoarder might pick up in his travels across cyberspace, footprints you might say, through an intangible land of very real ideas. This first one is of a deleted scene from season 4 of the Walking Dead that I've been meaning to share for quite some time, now that we are already at the end of season 5. Not sure why they deleted it, some great acting in my amateur opinion, but maybe the world is not ready for a concept like "stumping". I wonder how many good scenes end up on the cutting room floor. Of the 4 characters in the scene, 3 are dead now...

Despite my clean and sober state, I'm not ashamed to say that I wouldn't mind a bongload (just don't feel herb fits into the category of something somebody needs to get clean from) or a couple caps and stems (ditto) every now and again. I remember this one time trippin', not sure if it was shrooms or acid or both, but I was on the second floor of the Jolly Giant Commons at HSU, in this room that students could use for whatever. My buddy Senon's reggae band was playing and they had this awesome paisley carpet in the room that was just swimming like crazy. I don't know how long I stared at the floor in utter amazement. Then yesterday this kid that works at one of the group home I oversee, saw a pack of my smokes and said he had never seen those before. I told him that I get them from the reservation, that their all natural and that they only cost me $20 a carton. As I was telling him this young guy that, I noticed that he was smoking menthols of some cheap generic brand and I thought to myself, he can't be a man 'cause he doesn't smoke the same cigarettes as me.

So I had mixtape on my mind and the other day on the good classic rock station (the one that doesn't play the same shit over and over again) played three great tunes in a row. Funny thing about it too was that all three had to do with some aspect of mental health (an issue I have struggled with for a long time). So armed with a them and a mixtape as a purpose, I woke up in the middle of the night and two more song thought up to add to the initial three from the radio. I went ahead and stayed up for the next hour or two thinking up off the top of my head and then ultimately doing a search. A lot of the songs are common hits, not too many obscure ones, but with the hits I tried to find decent sounding live versions. All in all a good listen. So if you download that you'll find I added some samples to make it mine so to speak, and it will fit neatly on an 80 minute CDr...
Yesterday was my 46th birthday. Not a special or memorable number like 21 or 40 were, or I imagine like 50 will be, but still okay because it was a pretty alright year. Nothing mind blowing this year, but my life in general is fairly good...my Wife is still hot (way too fine, considering I'm fat and falling apart) and for the most part supportive, my Son is going to a division I university and is a well rounded individual, I have two beautiful Grandbabies, I enjoy spending time with my 4 dogs, ten (outside) cats, two horses and my miniature donkey Jet Li, work isn't my favorite part of my life, but I get paid well enough and what I do is important to the lives of others, I own my Great Great Grandfather's homestead, I have two pickups in case one breaks down and I have enough extra money to meagerly support my hobby, music. Life is good and I value it (which wasn't always the case). Most importantly, so I can enjoy all that, is I'm not a slave to the bottle anymore. Didn't do much on this birthday, worked, came home, changed into my pajamas, had coffee, a juicy steak and watched a decent movie, Lucy (actually I dug it tremendously). And thanx to the paradoxically good and evil Facebook, I got lots of birthday wishes from the people I love. My Native Brother Tom sent me the killer vid/tune below...

Made the paper again. If you're new to me making the paper, just know that in a county with around 2000 people, everyone makes the paper. 10 years baby. My next longest job was 5 years, that was 15 years ago, and I'm making the same paycheck now that I was then. Back then I cleaned puke and shit out of bathrooms, pulled syringes and broken glass out of play grounds. Now it's all about being somewhat of a social worker for adults with developmental disabilities. Not sure if there's a connection. I've already decided that I'll be working until I die and if I don't quit smoking, that may be sooner than later.
Made the local paper again, this time doing the only charitable thing I've been consistently doing since I was 16. I take that back, for the 4 or 5 years I was drinking myself to death, I didn't donate. It tickles me being in the paper, the wife makes fun of me because in a small town everyone makes the paper, but just for a moment I'm famous, a big fish in a small pond, hahaha. It says something too, to the people who stood in my way...yup I'm still alive and kicking dickheads.

This is so fricken brutal and I don't know what the woman did to deserve being murdered, but this is how you make sure someone is dead...something like 9 shots, alternating between the head and the torso. You know in my own deranged fantasy world as a youth I always figured that if I caught my girlfriend/wife cheating on me I'd tell the guy (or woman, you never know) to get lost and and then blow away the girlfriend/wife. Of course when it did happen I just walked away, never looking back, I'm not the killing type. Years later I cheated with my friends wife and really for that offense I deserved to do die (our mutual friends made that clear to me).
