D@D - S/T EP

ep-front-croppedWell my favorite Finnish aging punk rockers D@D are it again, this time with their first slab-o-wax. I sat on this thing way too long, seems to be the norm these days, and this release is old news now, although the music is farm fresh. My delayed response to Karstein (my contact in the band) was, "You guys have really outdone yourselves with this EP. The same Dad character, but with some superior recording/mixing. Your voice reminds me a bit of the Glen Danzig (I mean that in the best possible way as I am a huge fan of his early stuff with the Misfits)." His response to me was, "I´m a huge fan of crooners like Dean Martin, Sinatra n Elvis," and you know I can hear that in is voice, he's got a hell of a set of pipes. The band itself is really tight on this new recording and there's some variety in their sound, ranging from mid-tempo almost pop punk to straight up hardcore ragers. And this band is a lot of fun, not silly or stupid, they're not idiots, they are my contemporaries causing middle aged mayhem. As they put it in their Press Release, "The credo of “three chords and the truth” still applies. That’s why we’re not gonna pretend we’re young delinquents being hassled by the man. Fuck that. We’re suburban parents in our early 40s. We OWN our mediocrity and unhipness and we’ll make good use of it." Put these guys in the punk category and as they put it, "Punkrock is at best geezer culture and Dad is here to prove it." If I could ever get these guys to come to NoWhere Kansas I'd have them play at my house for a barbeque. Fave tune... "You Broke My Stuff" [audio mp3="http://mustard-relics.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/07-You-Broke-My-Stuff.mp3"][/audio] The more things I own The more the things own me The more things I own The more the things own me The more things I own I DON´T MIND THAT

Ramones

RamonesWell, today found out that the last original Ramone, Tommy, died yesterday. They're all dead now, and I guess I'm of the age where the people I look(ed) up to are dying of natural causes, although Tommy was only 62 and no cause of death has been released yet. The Ramones were the door that opened a whole world to me in my pre-teens. No more Bee Gees, no more KISS, this world was a real one, not polished to sell to masses of people who have a fascination with shiny objects. These guys spoke to me like nothing before or since. I can remember watching Rock and Roll High School with my buddy Alex, must have been not too long after it was released in 1979, memorizing the dialog and jumping around to the live sequences. Everything must come to an end. Here's a great live version of my favorite tune of theirs...

One of my prized records was the "It's Alive" double LP, such a good live recording of a great set in London 1977, the video is amazing. As I've said a shit ton of time around here, my memory is terrible, but I remember specifically, my second year of college, 1988, at my buddy Gage's house trading him that hunk of gold, for the Bauhaus "Bella Legosi is Dead" blue vinyl 12" on Small Wonder Records (Gage was a huge fan of the Ramones, in fact when I first met him he looked just like a Ramone). I don't know what the fuck I was thinking, but I sold out my boys. I still have the Bauhaus record and a few years ago I made amends and picked another copy of the 2xLP. Here's another one of my favorite tunes from that live set...

FEAR - On that show...

FearThis one keeps appearing and disappearing on utoob so thought I would put it here for permanence and posterity. The immortal John Belushi invited them to come on but it was too much for network TV and got cut short. Here's the wiki blurb on it... "Spheeris' documentary brought the band to the attention of John Belushi, who lobbied successfully to get the band a spot as a musical guest on the 1981 Halloween episode of his former show Saturday Night Live. Belushi had originally offered Fear the soundtrack for his major motion picture Neighbors. The film's producers eventually forced Fear off the project, and Belushi got them the infamous SNL gig as compensation. The band's appearance included a group of moshers, among them Belushi, Ian MacKaye of Minor Threat (and later Fugazi), Tesco Vee of The Meatmen, Harley Flanagan and John Joseph of the Cro-Mags, and John Brannon of Negative Approach. The show's director originally wanted to prevent the dancers from participating, so Belushi offered to be in the episode if the dancers were allowed to stay.[2] The end result was the shortening of Fear's appearance on TV. They started their second performance by saying, "It's great to be in New Jersey", drawing boos from SNL's New York live audience. Fear played "I Don't Care About You", "Beef Bologna", "New York's Alright If You Like Saxophones", and started to play "Let's Have a War" when the telecast faded into commercial. The slamdancers left ripe pumpkin remains on the set. After their SNL appearance, which resulted in $20,000 in damage, some clubs chose not to hire the band. A New York Post article later reported the figure to be $500,000. This is believed to have originated from Ving, who told the Post that "...we caused $500,000 worth of damage, a cool half a million dollars worth of damage, ‘cause we’re professionals, and I counted the damage myself."

EDIT: Deleted the vid for fear of the piracy police...

Lvxvria - Con Poses Y Sin Apuros 7"

LuxuriaGod I am so behind on these reviews, finally getting around to this one, a gift from my buddy Freddy a month or so ago (you want to make this old burn out happy, send me a record). This is one of those punk rock archeology things, something that would have been just a memory to a very few, had it not been for some benevolent soul. New, old you might say. The time is 1987, the place is Peru, the band is Lvxvria (as it is spelled on the 7", I've also seen it spelled "Lujuria" and "Luxuria"). I asked Freddy to give me his take on this here thing as there is zippo on the internet, "About Lvxvria: they're one of the original "Rock Subterraneo" bands from Lima, Peru circa '85-'87. That movement comprised raw HC bands like Ataque Frontal, Narcosis, Descontrol plus punk bands like Leuzemia, Zcuela Zerrada. There's not much in English about Lvxvria, they were a 3 piece with guitar, drums & vocals, no bass. Not necessarily by choice but more to a lack of resources in those days. The 5 songs on the 7" are taken from a 12 song demo they did in '87. Maybe if this record gets a good response, they'll be able to release the rest of the songs. To me, their songs have always had a melancholic & resigned yet hopeful air about them. The lyrics & sound reflecting the dark political & economic times in Peru during those years as well as the gloomy atmosphere that pervades Lima during the long rainy season & greatly affects the national character."  In other words this thing is a BADASS piece of wax! A little slice of history that sounds so old, partially due to the raw recording, but is so fresh today. This is South American Punk Rock at it's finest.  I don't even know how to categorize it, suppose if I knew more about this subterranean rock phenomena, that would help.  It's punk as fuck, I know that, nobody told the Peruvians that punk was dead, this thing is alive and kicking.  Real basic stuff as you might suspect with just a guitarist doing bar chords and a drummer with simple beats and fills.  The singer is very passionate in that Joy Division kind of way, I wish my Spanish was a little better. Despite the raw simplicity, hidden in some of these songs are these neat little melodies that these guys bounce off each other. You can get this bad boy from Freddy's Wardance Records distro for dirt cheap (really you should have that page saved in your favorites anyway). All the songs are hits, so for your listening/sampling pleasure, here's the first tune... "El Reflejo" [audio mp3="http://mustard-relics.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/Luxuria-01-El-Reflejo.mp3"][/audio] Those five tunes weren't enough for me, so I went on a search (part of the reason this took so long to post up), but as I said there is minimal web presence. You can find most of the tunes from this 7" on youtube, you know, just audio with a graphic, but I did manage to find a live vid that will take you out of whatever box you're in and do some educating in the phenomena of a different culture's take on familiar music... Of course that still wasn't enough, damn it I wanted the whole 12 song demo. Alas, it was up at some blog, but the links were long since dead. I found the next best thing in the form of a short live set, along with two other bands, this vid of a show recorded in 1986 at a place called La Cabana, I'm assuming in Peru. It was a great find, but I figured what heck, I'll rip and edit that into tracks. Oddly enough they play a little slower on this live stuff than they do on the demo, most bands it's the other way around. This is a killer little set though and if after your done listening to those, you don't hit up Freddy, then I can't help you... No lo Hare S.M.O. DEVO - Gates of Steel

I was a little late to Devo, a friend gave me the Freedom of Choice cassette (still have it) when it came out in 1980 (he also gave me ACDC's Back in Black cassette that same year, still have that too). Later I discovered their early stuff, most of which I have picked up on vinyl over the years, and as with moist bands they earlier the better, because as time goes on a band tends to water their stuff down. Not sure why that is, but Freedom of Choice, their last good album is still my favorite, every song kills it...holy shit I played the hell out of that cassette. My son recently asked me for a Devo mixed CD, which got me to thinking about what some of my favorite tunes were. I'd have to say the number one tune is "Gates of Steel"... Twist away the gates of steel Unlock the secret voice Give in to ancient noise Take a chance a brand new dance Twist away the gates of steel Twist away Now twist and shout The earth it moves too slow But the earth is all we know We pay to play the human way Twist away the gates of steel A man is real Not made of steel But the earth is all we know We pay to play the human way Twist away the gates of steel The beginning was the end Of everything now The ape regards his tail He's stuck on it Repeats until he fails Half a goon and half a god A man's not made of steel Twist away Now twist and shout The earth it moves too slow But the earth is all we know We pay to play the human way Twist away the gates of steel A man is real that's how he feels

This here live vid from 1980 is just about the most perfect performance ever, to have been a fly on the wall. I had a chance to see them sometime in the mid-80s at the Forum in LA, my buddy had tickets in hand. Of course his opinion of the show was that it was epic. This will have to do, imagining myself there...

The audio in case it iPod! worthy... Devo - Gates of Steel (Live) My buddy Chris' band Labrador did a very fine cover of the tune... Gates Of Steel

One Way System - Not Your Enemy b/w Shut Up

The wife is in the process of quitting smoking, so crankiness is sometimes the norm at my place.  I, on the other hand, am not.  My cousin was saying that when she and her husband tried to quit at the same time, it was very nearly (items were stuffed into bags and packing was done) grounds for divorce.  17 hours later they picked up a pack at the store, shared a smoke and were instantly in love again.  Just not feeling the urge to quit, despite the COPD diagnosis.  Shit even when "We (I) admitted we were powerless over alcohol - that our lives had become unmanageable" it still took me years to get off the hooch. Something has to snap in that fucked up brain, ya know.  Coffee and smokes are all there is left. I suppose when someone says I got the "C" word, I'll have to, but people around will just say, "he had plenty of opportunities to quit." Found out yesterday from an old buddy of mine, that a mutual friend, they were tight, died last year from cancer.  Bummed me out because I had been meaning to get in touch with him for a while now.  This guy my wife and I know here in town, actually worked at the same place for a couple of years, really a nice guy, just died after a long and ongoing addiction to pharmaceuticals...36. Went to the funeral and there were even a few people there who deal in Rx, that's nice isn't it, checking out their handiwork. He had plenty of chances and plenty of people pulling for him, so what can you say except sometimes life gets the better of you. One pill too many. He hadn't talked to his family in a while, I guess they gave up on him years ago, you know how that goes, the lying, cheating and stealing. I looked at his Mom and felt horrible for her, as things were bad between them when he died and now she would never have the chance to make things right. I told my wife that night that we needed to go to bed every night trying to make sure we're right with the world and the people we love.  On a positive note, just found out that if I die while working for this employer, the wife will get $50k. Back before The Cure, there was Easy Cure (before that Malice and before that Obelisk)...just saying, in case anyone is listening.  The Cure were in edgy band in their beginnings, it's amazing how so many bands evolve into something more passive and palatable for the masses.  Does that say something about people in general and how they grow older? Anyway. just because I think it's worth a listen, here's the Easy Cure 1978 demo...

See the Children Meethook I Want to Be Old Listen Need My-Self Oh what the hell, another later Cure incarnation, with a postman on vocals, Cult Hero...look it up, interesting. I'm A Cult Hero I Dig You

My Grandpa sent me a joke...When asked what steps he would take in the event of a fire, the man said, fucking big ones...hahaha.

Way back when I posted some mug shots of folks over the years showing how they had deteriorated over time from drug use. There's a new I one of my friends posted on FB that will just blow your mind, in the form of Faces of Meth. Show it to your kids. Was going through my 7"s trying to get stuff to sell on ebay (amazing how much stuff I have that sucks, in my opinion), so I can afford to buy more and ran across this one. Don't remember getting it and I knew nothing about the band, so gave it a listen...not bad. One Way System, it turns out, have been around since the early 80's. English street punk (you learn something new everyday, according to the article, Discharge falls into that category...hmmm) is what they're labeled as. This here is the band's 2nd to last release 1998 and is the first one that features a different singer, still not bad.  Isn't mind blowing or anything, but satisfies that rock n roll need.

Not Your Enemy Shut Up From their first appearance on the "A Country Fit For Heroes" in 1982 Jerusalem For purposes of comparison here's the first 7", I'm like that...

The Dickies - Paranoid b/w I'm Ok, You're Ok 7"

A snapshot I took of a youtube video I ripped of the season 2 finale of the Walking Dead, which is a based on a comic book series by the same name (I'm not familiar with the comic series). I don't know if any of y'all watch that show, but when they introduced this new character (Michonne) it just blew me away. With it being a season finale, I of course have to wait 6 months for it to kick back in. My wife says the show is my soap opera, and with the drama involved I suppose it is, but it's a soap opera with fucking ZOMBIES man! For better or worse (AMC is a Fox company) it's pushing the limits of what can be shown on primetime TV. I remember DJing on KHSU and having to wait until after midnight to play music with cuss words.  There is a case going before the Supreme Court, I think where Cher cussed on live TV during an awards show, that may end up crippling or completely doing away with the FCC anyway. The wife was cutting out an ingrown toenail for me the other day and not to get too deeply esoteric or anything but what did people's toes look like before there was toenail clippers. I suppose the wealthy guy and gal probably had some tools for that purpose, but the average Joe must have had some horrible looking toes or feet.  Makes you wonder when did the foot fetish first become popular?  Anyway cutting out that ingrown toenail left me with puppy dog eyes for the old lady.  Made me think of how in a Bugs Bunny carton, Bugs pulls a thorn out of a lion's paw and the lion was forever indebted to him. The Dickies were not a band I really was into in the late 70s early 80s. The guy's voice drove me nuts and I was pretty much just into the political/social bands of the time, not the sillycore stuff.  I suppose another factor was the fact that they were a big label band almost from the getgo.  Of course times change, and I grew to appreciate these guys for the punk icons they were (are), and a good band is just that.  This was their 2nd single in 1978, preceded by their ten inch single and their demo from 1977.  What you get here is undoubtedly the best "Paranoid" cover ever recorded along with a super snotty punked number.  I suppose they are still around today which makes it something like 35 years, check their Facebook.  Anyway...

Paranoid I'm Ok, You're Ok Well ripping this got my curiosity going as I'd never heard the demo that was made in November of 1977.  Difficult as hell to find as the demo itself as I'm sure it wasn't released on cassette as demos were back then, for just anybody and everybody to buy.  It was probably just for record companies and radio stations.  Turns out this guy has it posted just as it sounded on my favorite radio show (the reason I discovered punk rock) the Rodney on the ROQ show. Check that out on Chrisosurfs, well worth a listen to just hear Rodney. A little more searching and I found out that on the ROIR cassette release of the Dickies' "We Aren't the world" they have those demo tracks. I found them at Anajondas-Stash. Needless to say I was blown the fuck away, it doesn't get any punker than this...guaranteed... Hideous I'm OK, You're OK You Drive Me Ape (You Big Gorilla) Walk Like an Egg Just for the hell of it I went ahead and found some of the other covers The Dickies did... Silent Night Hair Nights In White Satin (Moody Blues) Nobody But Me (Isley Brothers) She (The Monkeys) Pretty Ballerina (The Left Banke) Eve of Destruction (Barry McGuire) Sounds of Silence (Simon & Garfunkle)

L'Assassins - S/T 7"

Another piece of vinyl beauty I got in the mail and before the official release date no less.   A reward for that 200 yard walk down my driveway to my mailbox.  Here' what they have to say...
All-girl 60s, surf, punk rock'n'roll!!! These gals have been playing around Minneapolis for the last year catching the attention of garage fans locally, including your's truly. So I was beyond excited when they approached me about putting out a record. It really was about time they released an injection of their Joan Chuck Berry Jett meets The Rollingstones laced jams on a hot slab of 7" wax for the rest of you. Spring/Summer Midwest tour in the works and a new video soon!

From the get go L'Assassins kick ass.  All three songs shred on this puppy and as happens sometimes with the shortness of the 7" format, you are left wanting more.  They're pretty much as described, surf with that punk snottiness standing on a rockabilly foundation.  If I was Zabby, handling their stuff, I'd send a copy to Quentin Tarrantino, as any one of these tunes could easily be in a soundtrack to one of his flicks.  The fat guitar sound makes me wish I had better speakers on my computer, but when I spun it on the turntable using the my stereo's speakers I was impressed by that and the nice bass sound (maybe I have the bass turned up to high though).  I like the vocalist, a little edge in her voice.  On the tune I've included the singer sounds a lot like Wendy O. Williams of the Plasmatics, and as such really lends itself to the punk sound.  You can listen to all three tunes at their website above, but I like to have a little something here as well...my favorite of the three, makes you want to dance the "jerk"...
...a vid from their first ever show, great stuff...

No Dubs - Brigad 45 B / De Anhöriga split 7"

Big time fan of horror movies, I guess you might have caught me saying that a time or two.  All kinds really, even the B movies, except the ones that suck of course. Not sure which movie this is from, I'm sure I've seen it because I've seen 'em all, but the special effects are incredible.  Even going back to a movie like Nosferatu, special effects have played a big part in these types of movies.  Whatever makes them scarier or bloodier the better.  Found out about a podcast that my buddy Josh was/is involved with, a discussion of horror movies as a genre, go check that out at The Brood.  The latest two that I've seen are "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" and "Paranormal Activity 3", not the gory kind of horror, more of the edge of your seat kind, but both worthy of a rental.

I'm almost always waiting on record in the mail, something I've ordered or gotten from ebay, but those unexpected, out of the blue ones are the best. My buddy (that I've never actually met) Bjorn outta Sweden, of De Anhoriga, Unter den Linden and most recently Pilleemandjoonks fame, came through and sent me a mixed CD and an extremely rare 7". We hadn't been in touch for some time after swapping mixed CDs (mine of Humboldt stuff, of course he dug One Man Running and his was of UdL and Pdj). The mixed CD (reminiscent of the tape trading days) has the latest Pdj demo, which rocks...here's the best of that in my opinion... Pilleemandjoonks - Konsumenten Pilleemandjoonks - Ett Helt Nytt Ar on top of that, Bjorn made it a true mix and added a bunch of 90s-00s Swedish stuff, the best of which, hands down is this one... The Ark - I'll Have My Way With You Turns out, one of his daughters is a chip off the old block and has a music thing of her own that takes the form of Wild Fields. I wish there was more pop like this, beautiful... Wild Fields - Wild Fields

This here record tells me that 1980 Sweden had it going on in a big way.  This has been posted before at the almighty Killed By Death Records, with much better rips I'm sure, but I just had to share it here at MR.  So for my birthday I got a miniature donkey and this closet classic (Bjorn literally found it in his closet).  Both bands are utterly perfect in their punk-rock-ness, but they do not sound at all alike.  If you consider yourself an old school punk and you haven't heard this, you are a fool if you don't at least listen to this thing...

Dead Kennedys - California Uber Alles 7"

Another talented soul, following the footsteps of his idol, John Belushi...a victim of suicide by addiction.

My son called me a nerd yesterday because I play those "stupid" facebook games (Zombie Lane, Gunshine, Battle Pirates).  He said "why don't you get an XBox, the games on there are so much better", I told him I only had only had enough money to get him an XBox...and being the self sacrificing kind of guy I am, was forced to suffer through the substandard graphics and programing, that I could find for free.  Actually I have a Playstation 2 with a bunch of games that I've mostly mastered, but I like to multi-task on the computer (playing Battle Pirates as I'm typing this).  I think the first video game for your TV was Pong and I had it along with a little black and white TV.  Anybody remember that.  Kinda sad really because I was an only child and the game required two people.  In my early teens it was all about Asteroids, the arcade version, I fuckin owned that game.  Got so good I could play it indefinitely, eight hours was my longest stretch on one game and the only reason I quit was that my hands were hurting.  There was a self serve car wash down the street from the arcade and you could run up and kick the change machine and quarters would fall out.  Easy to get good when you have an unlimited quarter supply.  Then some hesher show me how to "rig" the machine by taping thread to the quarter and running it back and forth over the switch in the coin slot, racking up the credits.  Good times.

Does anyone think I over use the "..."?

For you SPK fans, if you're serious, you probably already know this and I'm just a noob (as the kids these days say), check out the Dokument 1110 boxset...live shit and the singles.  This guy has kindly made it available (the starting bid at Ebay is $175) over at his Shards of Beauty blog.  One of my favorite tunes live... SPK - Contact Was reading on the Humboldt Punk page about a woman named Melissa Medina who did a bit of singing for the Hitch...got me curious. Dropped a line to Jefe to see if he had any mp3s of that collaboration. Sure enough he did have this one and only tune, which may be the best cover of that tune ever and sure enough it's done in that H-E-A-V-Y Hitch way (if you haven't heard of the Hitch before it means you're new here or didn't live live in Humboldt County circa late '90s, early '00s...don't sweat it though there's a shit load if you look around). The Hitch - Come Together Kinda silly that I'm 300 and some odd posts into this thing and I haven't approached the almighty (ridiculously fractured) Dead Kennedys.  Don't really need to chew these guys and spit them out for you, you wouldn't be at a site like this if you hadn't heard of the band.  I first heard this single, their 1st, (although this is the second pressing released that same year) in 1979 on the Rodney on the ROQ show.  Being a kid who was into 70's hard rock and disco I was blown the fuck away (my Mom was listening too and she thought it was "different").  I think the first vinyl I got with them on it was the Rat Music for Rat People comp.  Never got to see the band with Jello (plenty of missed opportunities, that probably involved drinking beer instead), but I did see them in the 90's with Brandon of Dr. Know on vocals (I know no comparison).  I was sloppy drunk anyway and spent most of my time on floor in the pit being trampled.  Have most, if not all, of their albums, a few of their 7"s, and several comp appearances...enjoy this their first.

California Uber Alles Man With The Dogs There may be more demos prior to this 7", but the one I know of is what is called "the 1978 Demo, which I think is several demos (well worth your time if you haven't given those a listen)... California Uber Alles Man With The Dogs

Butthole Surfers - Cherub (Fenders, Long Beach, Kali 1986)

Man it is a real ghost town around here, it's a good thing my survival isn't based on the success of this place.  I'll blame it on the holidays and not on the content.  A tall glass of water, a deep glass of juice and a wide cup of coffee to everyone, here's to hoping you have something to celebrate.

Back in the mid 80's when I was in high school in the LA/CA area, there was a cable access station, can't remember if it had a name, that would play Flipside videos (I may have mentioned it before) of live punk/hardcore shows.  Watched that show religiously and would tape every half hour show and watch them all the time.  So I had these tapes with like 12 bands per tape, with bands like the Subhumans, Conflict, Marginal Man, Decry, Reagan Youth, etc.  One of my favorites was the Butthole Surfers one from 1986, in Long Beach.  I kicked myself for not having gone to most of the shows.  I had a car in '86 and Long Beach was only about an hour's drive away.  A few years later I would take these tapes with me to college and share them with friends.  The Butthole Surfers one was perfect tripping material.  Somewhere though I lost that tape and I've been looking for that Butthole Surfers show ever since.  In-fucking-sane. So...sorta long story short here is my favorite tune from that set...

The Phantom Limbs - S/T 7"

This one got to me...I have something about eyeballs, and I can hardly look at it.  When I was a kid my buddy and I were playing with a frisbee and decided to put a spin on it so to speak.  He turned it upside down and laid a nail in it.  He then threw it to me.  Needless to say, the frisbee didn't make it to me, but the nail got stuck in my head just missing my eye by a few centimeters.  To this day I still have the scar.  Ever since then I've been sensitive about things near my eye and have never been able to put eye drops in them.  Somehow the GIF goes with the music featured in this post.

Not much going on here at Mustard Relics central at the moment.  In important world news though, Kim Kardasian and her husband filed for divorce after 70 something days and Michael Jackson's doctor was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter.  Other than that I believe the world is at peace and the human race has finally gotten all of it's inherent flaws worked out...oh joy, bliss, nirvana.

I've got some reviews coming up (are you ready for that), one CD and two books...someone out there must value my opinion round here...hahaha.

Was moving stuff off the computer and onto the external hard drive and ran into this (wish I had a hard copy).  I was secretly a Cure fan in high school, but I don't think I appreciated them then like I do now, especially the early stuff...their first Peel Session from '78 the cure - killing an arab the cure - 10.15 saturday night the cure - fire in cairo the cure - boys don't cry Even earlier I think...punk fucking rock the cure - heroin face (live) My buddy Sam Atakra sent this to me, along with a bunch of other music, several months ago and I only just recently got around to listening to it. I'll be damned (really I already am) if it isn't (to use a word I used to use a lot in the 80's), bitchen. Discogs describes them as "alternative rock" and "goth rocks", but the band hit's a little harder than those categories seem to imply.  The Phantom Limbs were outta Frisco and were around from '99 to '05.  This here 7" put out by Sam's Atakra Productions was their first.  I have yet to hunt down their other stuff to compare their later work but they were important enough to be signed by Alternative Tentacles.  What you get is sort of a hardcore gothy thing-a-ma-bob, sort of like early 45 Grave, but not really like them at all.  Twisted like the Butthole Surfers but not like them at all either. I've heard a lot of shit in my time, by no means an expert in anything, but I've never heard anything like this (you probably have...if so, tell me who).  The organ reminds me of going to church when I was a kid, but this is not church music (but it should be).  Synth too, but not Flock of Seagulls synth, much more disturbing than that (although now that I think about it FoS was disturbing in it's own way). This is so Sam, that is to say, a naked people with masks kind of thing. The whole vibe is like a sick tortured carousel ride. All three tracks rip but the first is the rotten worm infested apple, the kid who pulled the wings off of flies, gave to his 2nd grade teacher. Enjoy...or do whatever it is you do to this type of music... Hot Knives And Hornets Shake A Baby Murder Us Windpipes

Stargazers - 100 Foot Worm Makes Own Food 7"

Ever been asked to leave? Or better yet, made to leave?  I had a lot of good times in bars, but it's like your IQ drops 30 point points the second you enter the door and who the fuck knows where it's at by the time you leave.  The stench of hormones and liquor.

Trying to think positive instead of turning these posts into a bitch session about shit we are all aware of. One of the best hardcore acts EVER (SERIOUSLY)

This joke reminds me of a several of the guys I provide services to at work... I was walking past the mental hospital the other day, and all the patients  were out in the yard shouting, "13....13....13." The fence was too high to see over, but I saw a little gap in the planks, so  I looked through to see what was going on...

Some idiot poked me in the eye with a stick! Then they all started shouting "14....14....14!"

Wanted to take a second to thank my buddies who have been commenting around here, you know who you are. I won't get into the begging and pleading for comments that I have fallen victim to before, but I will say it makes a difference. Just got a notice from the provider for my server space, which is not cheap, so I end up asking myself every year around this time, is it worth it. I really could save myself a lot of money and buy a $2 journal and start every entry with "Dear diary..." Stargazers1Got this one way back when at a record store in San Diego....the used bin for $.50. Not sure I even listened to it and if I did, I must have not thought much of it.  Pulled it out the other day, thinking to myself, "I don't remember listening to this" and then I thought to myself "I should play this, the cover looks really amateurish, but it might be good", so I put it on the turntable and thought to myself, "this really sounds like the Butthole Surfers and one of the song titles mentions Paul Leary, the guitarist of the Butthole Surfers."  Not a whole lot of web presence on this thing, but you can pick up a copy for cheap.  I stumbled across a site called Butthole Surfers Anal Obsession and this is what he had to say in his BS bootleg category... "By far the most obscure of the bunch, info on this one has eluded me. It claims to be a Paul Leary pre-Butthole Surfers recording, but it's not...or at least part of it is not. The "White, Dumb, Ugly & Poor" is a live SBD recording...a version that has not surfaced at all, other than here. The rest are strange instrumentals, one (titled here as "Criminal Unicorn Men In Formation") seems to be from the same Thai cassette as "Kuntz". a very odd studio version of "No Rule" too. Rumors that this comes from an old mix tape of Paul's can't be verified, although only a few in the inner circles ever knew that Paul wanted to use this name before settling on Butthole Surfers.  It's impossible to tell when these recordings are even from. The "No Rule" sounds to be from earlier than when they started playing it live, but that could be due to the poor sound quality. Either way, though, I'd call this the most interesting of the lot. Despite of the mediocre quality, and the odd non-Butthole Surfers material, I really enjoy this one." So I guess you could call this Butthole Surfer related.  The first track is worth a listen.  The tune is worth your time, but the hit on this thing is "White Dumb Ugly Bored".  At least give that one a spin..

Alice Cooper - Clones (We're All) 7"

BuseyReoccurring realization today, again finding negativity in the Yahoo headlines...I HATE the term "stars".  Sports, music, film, television, whatever, you are not a star, you are doing your fucking job.  Your wealth and fame, your ups and downs, how much you spent on your mansion, whose dress you're wearing,  nothing about your life interests me.  Your job is to entertain me and if you do it well, I will watch you do whatever it is you do and ensure that you get paid too much to do it.  The lady who everyday (except Sundays of course) down dusty, muddy, snowy, dirt roads, behind slow moving tractors, swerving to miss deer, faithfully delivers my mail, now she, is a "star" (and also my cousin...hahaha). coffee winkFor you fellow coffee drinkers, maybe you can relate.  I don't like those non drip coffee makers that allow you to fill your cup before the pot is completely done.  All kinds of shit going on in the world and that's what bother's me...I know, I know.  But the pot is a complete individual entity that has to go through it's full cycle to become the butterfly that it is.  If you interrupt that cycle, if you mess with the cocoon so to speak, the pot is dead or at the very least you are left with a weak imitation of coffee.  When I get after my wife for doing it, I call it taking the "nectar".    Take the nectar and the flower is of no use to the bee.  Know what I'm talking about, this is no bullshit and is a serious matter?  You must maintain the integrity of the pot. Raymond mentioned something I'd never heard, much less heard of, a Dave Grohl metal project called Probot.  I was never a big Dave Grohl fan, I guess for a rediculous reason, his bands are/were popular.  Got into Nirvana after Cobain scrabbled his brain and actually what got me headed in that direction was the Pat Smear connection.  Never gave Foo Fighters a chance but I might have to correct that.  Anyway...Probot?  Impressive, not in that blow your mind kind of way, but PDG (pretty damn good).  The whole concept of having some of the greatest metal and crossover vocalists do your songs is cool.  I doubt that any of those guys would respond to my invitation at a similar project...fame and fortune have their advantages.  This guy had an interesting review over at his 365 Albums in 365 Days.  My favorite tune off the album is also it's shortest, featuring Mike Dean of Corrosion of Conformity fame, Probot - Access Babylon (ft. Mike Dean) ...and the in case that got your juices flowing, the whole album! A band I'd shamefully never heard before.  Proto-goth or proto-death rock from around 1983. Looked into picking up some of their records, there a 7" and a 12" EP, but both command out of this world prices on ebay (they have been re-released though). Part 1 - Funeral Parade (7") The search for "new to me" music is a never ending journey for me and really I've just scratched the surface of what is out there.  The day you stop learning (searching) is the day you're dead.  Found this one little hidden niche of music in the form of Peruvian Garage/Surf Rock of the mid 60's.  Fucking 'eh there's some damn good shit in a some of those bands/tunes or as Cheech would say, "oh so too much". Los Saicos - Demolicion (this song really blows me away, if you listen to one song on this post, make it this mid 60s rager)

Vincent Damon Furnier didn't grab my attention when I first heard him in the 70's.  These days I suppose I realize how important he was as far as the development of rock and roll, extreme in his time.  The songs that I'm familiar with are "I'm 18","School's Out" and "Billion Dollar Babies", but those have been playing on the radio regularly for the last 40 years.  Incidentally it was/is his connection to radio as a DJ of his syndicated "Night With Alice Cooper", that airs on the "big" corporate owned, classic rock station here from 7-10 on the weeknights.  What I like about his show is that he plays a much better variety than they do regularly on the station which suffers badly from "playing the same shit over and over again".  Cooper throws in live cuts, alternate takes, and has a ton of stories about his own encounters with the bands.  So I've started exploring his stuff a little bit more and picked up this single 2 or 3 years ago.  Dig this song cuz it's got that definite AC almost snottiness, mixed with the new wave/punk thing that was going on when it was released in 1980.  Still a relevant song title today.

My copy is a promo copy so it just has the mono version of Clones on the b-side.  Tracked down the album this was off of, "Flush the Fashion" so here's the b-side, Model Citizen ...on the same album the opening track is a good cover of Music Machine's... Talk Talk Never one to just send a few tunes out into the virtual netherworld and then quickly end a post (I'm not going to criticize myself for that anymore though because it's just my style...and I got style!).  In my wanderings I came across this great picture of Alice and Suzi Quatro circa 1974.  In honor of that, from the same year as the photo... Suzi Quatro - Little Bitch Blue ...of course her best song though is 1981s Lipstick

The Pogues - A Pair of Brown Eyes 7"

Short on personal commentary which may be for the best as I think I should start every post with "Dear diary...".  There's always some issue, it seems, and the quiet country life is always interrupted, if not externally by some asshole vomiting their bullshit all over me, then those pesky internal, mind fuck issues pop up.  For now it seems that by quitting the bottle I have gotten rid of a truck load of selfishness, but I'm still more selfish than I thought.  As the Beatles said, "I, me, mine".  Oh well there's always music to reflect on. In my wanderings recently found myself making a big circle again (shit happens all the time with music [which is a metaphor for life]) and finding myself some twenty years later listening to King Crimson.  You know if they weren't so huge their 80's stuff would have made a great later Touch and Go band, with the likes of Killdozer, Jesus Lizard, the Butthole Surfers and Big Black .  Brother Davrick gave me about 50 records, most of which should have been in my possession, one of them was Crimson's Discipline.  I used to listen to that album with my music buddy back in the late 70's early 80's, Alexander Wallace III.  Rumor has it he killed himself, which makes me wish I would have stayed in touch with him, maybe he would have take a different path.  Dedicated to him, King Crimson - Elephant Talk (live Philidelphia 07.30.82) Such an insanely good tune especially if you like that snotty sarcastic progressive jazz rock and roll thing that they had going in the early 80's.  Rewind a decade or so with some of their many line up changes and they came out with, the year I was born, these far the fuck out tunes from their 1st album (the songs are a bit longer than I have patience for these days, but if you're into it, smoke a bong load think of your old pal Mustard who hasn't smoked in 10 years, sit back and enjoy). King Crimson - The Court Of The Crimson King King Crimson - 21st Century Schizoid Man Trying (maybe too hard) to get to know this guy on the internet, and I don't know about anybody else but there's a method to that and I just don't have it.  Face to face over a cup of coffee or back in the old days over a pitcher of beer rapping with someone is easy, especially over a common interest.  Either the guy is just too busy or my own special brand of passive insanity is just to overwhelming, like being wasted at a bar and trying to put the moves on the ladies...not subtle.  Anyway was just wanting to pick his brain as the guys is an encyclopedia when it comes to Japanese hardcore.  Sent him a rip of this 7" I just picked up with three different versions of the same song (kinda lame), not really worthy of dedicating a whole post to, but still a fucking rager of a tune...this version's my favorite... Rydeen-You Are Not Me Posted this one on Facebook a while back.  Now there's a place that leaves me feeling like I'm a stray dog waiting in the alley behind the butcher shop for scraps.  I can honestly say that I've never clicked on a single one of the ads, which is after all what that place is really about.  Off course endless psycho dramas make up a good part of it as well.  Anyway this is the master of avant jazz Albert Ayler playing at another master, John Coltrane's funeral.  Classical music does not make you sophisticated, this shit does, or maybe you could drop a tab of cid and REALLY trip out.  This is from the Holy Ghost...box set. Albert Ayler - Love Cry/Truth Is Marching In/Our Prayer The only album I have of his is Witches and Devils, again my buddy Alexander turned me onto him, here's the title track but maybe we'll post the whole thing sometime, Albert Ayler - Witches and Devils Got into the The Pogues somewhat late, probably '87 or '88 when I was in college. Kind of cool because you go to this new place and all these people from all over with different tastes expose you to all kind of interesting stuff (first thing I learned was how to roll a joint and the fine art of inhaling nitrous oxide). It was that way with my late exposure to bands like Joy Division, Cocteau Twins, Violent Femmes the Stooges and SPK.  I just found out recently that Shane McGowan the lead singer was in a snotty as hell band called the Nipple Erectors (later the Nips), you can get all their stuff from a fine little diddy of a site called Digvinyltal.  For now here's one of their better tunes I posted in passing a while back, The Nips - All The Time In The World Have a ton of the Pogues shit on dubbed cassettes, but this 7" ,that I recently got, is the first time I've gotten my grubby little hands on some actual vinyl.  It's not secret that the singer Shane McGowan is a raging alcoholic and when he finally is dead I'm sure he will be the drinkers saint.  That was my appeal to them and listening to them probably with a pint of stout or a bottle Irish whiskey (the argument Catholic vs Protestant, Bushmills vs. Jameson is solved here).  Now that I don't drink at all, I still have an appeal to them.  Maybe it's nostalgic or a reminder of a place I don't want to be again.  Whatever your thoughts, these guys are huge and have a knack for writing songs that are deep, with music that captures the listener.

A Pair of Brown Eyes Whiskey You're The Devil

As usual, feel like I haven't put enough out there to sample, it's going to a fancy restaurant, spending $50 and getting a tiny plate of food...this ain't no fancy restaurant.  This here's a buffet.  Some of my favorites off their Just Look Them In The Eye and Say...Pogue Mahoney!! box set, which would be well worth looking for if you fancy these guys.

Caterwaul Of Sound - Stabby Road

IMAG0046Some records that have come my way recently, thank God for capitalism and cheap records to be found on ebay.  Even getting some of the Record Store Day 2011 releases at cost, although some of them (not the ones I'm buying) are going for 3x what they did at the stores (Doors, Velvet Underground and ACDC).

So they killed Bin Laden today and I felt a chill, not the joy that so many felt around me.  A sadness for all the lives he was responsible for ending and anger at the world for being a breeding ground for people like him.  A buddy of mine had this quote up,

"I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that."--Martin Luther King, Jr.

A part of me wants to be happy that "we've" gotten rid of of such a vile person and really the world is a better place without him, but nothing has been a changed about the petri dish.  What makes a tree grow, where do mosquitoes breed, how do you build a fire.  But as I told one of my buddies, "I gave up leading rebellion a long time ago my friend. I've retired and, now talk out of my ass and quote from people that were better than most human beings are capable of being."

On a lighter note, some fucking insane, not your run of the mill hip hop, from '05, a buddy (one of those internet ones that I've never actually met) just turned me onto...

Nazz of the killer Bleedin' Out blog who has stopped in here and left a comment or two, did me (us) a huge favor and turned me onto his band Caterwaul of Sound. I'm still up in the air about the name they chose but that means nothing when you give these guys a listen. On a Butthole Surfers post I did a little while back he left the comment, "speaking of drug addled Butthole Surfish-ish stuff, My band (Caterwaul Of Sound) just released our first album (Stabby Road) – it’s here for your perusal. Play it and watch all the animals in your neighborhood commit ritual suicide."  They have quite a few videos (where I took the snapshot from) and even their own page on youtube and not to leave anything out a myspace page too.  You can download their album and give them a complete listen and I suppose do them right and buy it as well, but I've selected what I thought were my favorites.  Several of the tunes are covers, but I kind of favored what I thought were originals (or maybe they're all covers, I just didn't recognize the rest).  Not sloppy enough to be 70's punk but they definitely are influenced and have a punk sound with a lot of other shit going on as well.  Silly, snotty, and satirical, like laughing at a guy who's puking.  The vocalist sounds very familiar, like a blend of some of your classic punk singers but he has his own sound (a little bit of Jello and definitely Johnny Rotten on the first tune when he says "problem").  The last tune on the album (not posted here) was a little over the top for me with the whole abortion and "sweet sixteen and I had to bang her", but that just shows that I'm getting old, can't handle pushing it to the edge and maybe I was never that punk rock to begin with. Overall the whole thing is well worth a listen, my favorite tune was "The Ballad of John List".  Thanx Nazz.

NEW WAVE rock 'n' roll Get behind it before it gets past you. 2x7" comp.

I have to agree with Homer, torture me with donuts anytime.  My cousin owned a donut/coffee shop not too far from where I'm at here in the middle of nowhere and she insisted that for me, both were always free. My Mom says that my love for donuts and also fish and chips, is due to the fact that she worked at Winchells and H. Salt Fish & Chips in Hollywood when she was pregnant with me. My in utero education also included lessons in music appreciation (hence my love of music) in the form of a nightclub over on Temple street in LA called the Intersection. But the question is can a man live on music and fried food alone? Don't usually get clued into events like birth, death and anniversaries until after the fact so as a result I don't get to represent that much around, like some of your better sites do.  This morning on the radio, Elwood Blues reminded me that today is Muddy Waters' birthday.  As far as music appreciation, he might be in lesson #1 for the origins of rock and roll.  Thanx to this site, which has great taste, but didn't have anything else to say except cut and paste, I didn't have too look far for Mr. Waters' earliest recordings.   Here's one to give you a lesson in how to make a guitar speak for you...1941 baby, Country Blues SteveOne of my many Aunts back in the 70's had this Steve Miller Band album (Book of Dreams) painted on her bedroom wall.  Actually a very beautiful painting even if it is kind of cliche and could be considered typical of the 70's.  I can remember that she did an incredible job on it and it was huge, probably 5 feet across, but all I could think of was that the circle wasn't perfectly round.  Why is that?  Even today I can look at the most epic tattoo but if the lines aren't perfectly straight or the curves aren't smooth, that's what pops out at me.  Anyway they played a tune on my new classic rock radio station (if you remember the old one got typical and only had a relatively small number of tunes in their selection, thus doomed to play the same songs over and over again [and I don't care how good of a tune ACDC's Back in Black is, you just can't listen to it every day, play fucking Jailbreak every once in a while]) and I can't for the life of me ever remember hearing it.   The album before Book Of Dreams, Fly Like An Eagle (1976) had hits like the title track and "Take the Money and Run", so unless you're a fan I can imagine most radio stations didn't play this one you probably wouldn't have heard it (or care too?  I don't know).  Bad ass tune in my opinion with great lyrics, I didn't guess it as being SMB (even though it's sounds exactly like one of his tunes), check it... Steve Miller Band - Serenade Just for the sake of a needless compare and contrast, trip on what SMB was doing 8 years earlier on their first album (or not), Steve Miller Band - Steppin' Stone New Wave Sire 1This little double 7" comp from 1977 was a history lesson for me, as before this thing I knew nothing about three of the bands (my old elementary school buddy Roy, his Mom was into the Talking Heads and I'd Heard them on the radio, and actually my least favorite band on the comp).  On a side note these scans are from the new $32 all-in-one scanner printer thing-a-ma-bob I got at one of the up and coming multi-death corporations, Walmart (what do you want, it was cheap and Walmart chased of all the little Mom and Pop competition years ago in my neck of the woods).  Sire Records put together a nice little package of a sampler here (albeit with a stupid title), I don't think it's very rare though and the tracks are just the "hits" off of their Sire released LPs, but damn...  After I ripped it, listened to it several times through and thought that it's too bad I don't have all the albums these tunes are samples of.  The bands here are all historic and a guy could go on and on about their importance, so if you haven't gotten into them before it would be worth it to check out their albums.  One thing all the bands have in common is those snotty as fuck vocals, except for the Talking Heads whose music, at first listen, sound a little like 70's Michael Jackson (and actually the Saints' vocalist sounds a little like a mix between Iggy and Bob Dylan, hahaha).  Anyway... Dead Boys-All this and More Dead Boys-Sonic Reducer from the Talking Heads: 77 LP Talking Heads-Uh-oh, Love Comes To Town Talking Heads-Don't Worry About the Government from the (I'm) Stranded LP The Saints-(I'm) Stranded The Saints-Erotic Neurotic from the Blank Generation LP Richard Hell & The Voidoids-Blank Generation Richard Hell & The Voidoids-Betrayal Takes Two Just in case you wanted to hear the original of the Saints' "(I'm) Stranded" a superior site like Peter's is where you need to look.  Here's the vid for the album version... Butthole Surfers - The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 7"

The other day there were two headlines next to each other on the Yahoo home page, "Global Impact of Japan Crisis" and a crucial piece called "Actresses Sport Same Dress."  I know it's one of those silly little things to be bothered by, but it just seems connected to where we are today.  All kinds of crap going on in the world today (as on any other day) and unfortunately I have to share this planet with shit loads of idiots.  It's not just that the whole concept of the media sucks, but it is a reflection of who "we" are.  I include myself in the mix too because I know that I'm just as guilty of being a sucker too.  What the hell are we doing and where's this all headed?  Oh yeah, and the royal wedding is less than a month away. I may have mentioned this before, but for all things Rudimentary Peni you MUST go to Piss in a Pod.  At the risk of mentioning that site again, I had been looking a while for a cheap copy of Nick Blinko's book the Primal Screamer and realized that I couldn't afford a real copy, the used ones on Amazon are starting at $150, the ones on ebay don't go for much less than that.  It turns out Piss in a Pod is the place to get your free digital copy of the Primal Screamer .  Printed it out at work, yeah I know I'm a scumbag for stealing paper and ink from a non-profit organization, but I did do two sided copies so I feel better about myself.  After finishing it the other night, first impression, a damn good read.  Kind of a Bukowski narrative that takes the form of psychologist's notes.  It's called semi-autobiographical because it has a good deal of factual information with the names changed, but some things are obviously fiction, while others you're left to decide for yourself.  Hopefully it doesn't ruin it but the dream at the end is the most intense description of a dream I've ever read (you know how hard it is to paint a picture of the other worldliness of a dream or more specifically a nightmare.  Do yourself and read that. My buddy Mike over at Strange Reaction did a review a book called My So Called Punk and realized I really know nothing about what they call punk today, other than bands like Bad Religion, NOFX and Rancid that have been doing it for a while.  Apparently this guy from Rancid was dating (married to?) a woman who fronts a band that has a big following.  Their kind of part of that whole festival punk/rock/metal phenomena, which I'm not too into (at least the Warped Tour thing I went to was not my thing).  Anyway like I said these guys are remind me more of grunge than anything else but I thought I'd put it out there.

This one came by way of another buddy who does a music site.  Never in the time it took for the universe to be formed did I think I'd be into this stuff, but it's got that cabaret, Billie Holiday thing going on.  Plus this lady has been bashed in the tabloids and has been known to have that loser thing going on with the dope and liquor...how can you resist that.  I don't care what you say, bad ass tune.

We've visited these guys before in a super post here and I also mentioned their killer website, appropriately called Butthole Surfers.  Probably don't need to get all fired up again over these guys, this bootleg speaks for itself.  A Beatles  cover in a way only the Buttholes could do and an old classic.  Nobody makes anything close to this good these days and even back then.  Let's do it legally with some of salvia and enjoy.

Cherub Cherub the angel Roll back the hands of time Cherub Enter the angel Aaaaaaahhhh! You walk alone now You're never mind The walks you've taken Have left behind All people sideways They look at you May god forsake me Cause I do to I see bodies Maybe, just maybe someone is alive Naked we smile Hoo-hahahahahahahah, a-hahahahahohoho Naked Ha-ha Ahhhh You're right beside me You gaze a view Your body's vacant They crawl right through Those bodies falling It's in the air We're mixed so close now But I don't care Ha ha ha Walk upon me Your body lead You try to escape you It's in your head I'd better go back I'm not over there You walk beside me You gaze at me You're homeless now Or that times three Amazon You gaze along I'll make you talk you There is no bong Your mind has cut you You're bleeding now Your plans escaped Just like a bow They walk right past you They stop and stare Your body's lying All over there Ha-he-he-he-he

Napalm Death demos for Elliott

EDIT:  Before you go any further you cyber surfer you, the links are all dead and I can't find the first 4 demos anywhere...do me a favor and let me know if you find them (yeah right, you'd do that for me)... Well Elliott as you requested, I looked around to see what I could find as far as Napalm Death demos.  It became quite an adventure and actually spent two evenings after work (my wife works most nights) looking high and low.  Got sidetracked here and there, and found all kinds of other music to listen to and shit to read.  I don't do Soulseek or any P2P crap these days because of the trouble I got into with with my ISP (there's only one that provides service in my neck of the woods) over torrents.  The wife said she'd kill me if the internet got turned off so that's it.  Your best bet for finding those demos is probably one of those P2P sites or better yet finding someone who actually has hard copies (I got one from the band back in the day).  Anyway, here's what I found.  These are the demos with the original lineup. Halloween (1982, demo 1 - 9 songs) And, Like Sheep, We Have All Gone Astray (1982, demo 2 - 15 songs) Kak (1983, demo 3 - 10 songs) Unpopular Yawns of Middle Class Warfare (1983, demo 4 - 6 songs) Hatred Surge (1985, demo 5 - 9 songs) From Enslavement to Obliteration (1986, demo 6 - 13 songs) There is also a falsely reported/rumored demo called "Punk is a Rotting Corpse" which just has the song they did off the Bullshit Detector 3 comp, plus three songs by some unknown bands that get attributed to ND.  From this same period there is also some songs on various comp tapes/record, Chapter 3 - Various Artists (by Jako of "The Joy of Propaganda", 2 songs, 1982) Ruptured Gut - Various Artists (by Twisted Tapes, 2 songs, 1982) Twisted Nervous Breakdown - Various Artists (by Twisted Tapes, 1 song, 1982) Subversive Elements - Various Artists (2 songs, 1982) Bullshit Detector #3 : "Crucifixion of Possessions" (1984) I don't know if there is more, that's just what I found at this wikipedia-like site called World Lingo.  So anyway after searching the internet there were only three things I could find.  I have the Hatred Surge cassette but it's posted a lot and I'm not going to pretend like my rips are any better than anyone else's.  It was also released with the other demo I found, From Enslavement to Obliteration, as a bootleg LP, which you can from this boring, can't take the time to say anything about what they're posting blog. Not sure about the sound quality on that bootleg, if I had to pick I'd get the demos separately, like Hatred Surge from this guy who at least has something to say about the music he's sharing. Get the From Enslavement to Obliteration demo from my buddy Billy over at Crust-Demos he got some comments somewhere in there from Nic the bass player/vocalist from this original and long gone incarnation of ND. Not sure if you're still having trouble with external storage sites and RAR/ZIP files so I'll go ahead and post this killer stuff here (I have another friend who uses a computer for the blind, would love to check how you interface with it). Hatred Surge what man can do instinct of survival abbatoir control sacrificed so sad caught in a dream private death cheswick green (live) From Enslavement to Obliteration Multinational corporations Instinct of survival Unclean Sacrificed Siege of power Caught... in a dream What man can do Control Death by manipulation Abattoir Private death The kill You suffer Did find one more thing from the ever faithful when it comes to this stuff, Kill Your Pet Puppy with the Twisted Nervous Breakdown comp cassette from 1982.  In general the rips Mr. Penguin does over there are done as a side one and side two type of thing, with none of the tracks separated.  So....I've done this before with several of his rips (even posted one with the Mob way back) I sat down and edited them out into tracks and labeled them.  Just to give an example of this whole thing was detoured often, his rips were MP3 and my ripping program only works with RIFF WAV and my converter works in all kinds of formats so I had to find a different converter.  Once that was done everything was sitting pretty.  Really that was just to be able to listen to that one Napalm Death track, but as it turns out even though the recordings were MUDDY, probably done on a ghetto blaster, there were a few worthwhile tunes.  Here's that ND track, Napalm Death-The Good Book

Just for the hell of it, to wrap this up, here's a couple of good tunes from the same comp by a couple of likewise early 80's English bands with that anarcho-punk almost crusty thing going on (the cold war and eminent nuclear annihilation inspired a lot of music back then, interesting how we still have all these stockpiles and the end is still just a couple of pushes of the button away),
