My Martyred Heretic electro-comp is officially out now, check it out at Mustard Relics Records. No greater variety of electronic bands has ever been released, so much variety that a guy is guaranteed to like at least one song and likewise guaranteed not to like all of them (otherwise you would be like me and one of the most eclectic mother fuckers on the planet). 18 tracks, running around 80 minutes, 10 bands, from 4 different countries melting brains and sipping them through a straw. You can't beat that for only $6 ppd. Made the paper again. If you're new to me making the paper, just know that in a county with around 2000 people, everyone makes the paper. 10 years baby. My next longest job was 5 years, that was 15 years ago, and I'm making the same paycheck now that I was then. Back then I cleaned puke and shit out of bathrooms, pulled syringes and broken glass out of play grounds. Now it's all about being somewhat of a social worker for adults with developmental disabilities. Not sure if there's a connection. I've already decided that I'll be working until I die and if I don't quit smoking, that may be sooner than later.

My buddy Sean turned me onto this vid, actual World War I footage with some CGI thrown in. Some people don't like CGI, but those are also people who probably don't like electronic music. I marvel at the ability of folks to use the latest technology to create art. When you stop to think about it, a flint knife, at one time, was the latest technology.

The vid is well worth watching, but if your just in an aural mode, here's the audio... Din Of Celestial Birds (2006) - E I was thinking about when I was SPK-ed in 1987 and remembered, somehow, that my first exposure to electronic music must have been in about 1978 with Kraftwerk... Kraftwerk - die Roboter My buddy Roy "Hamsterhead" Miyake's Mom was pretty hip, the house was decorated with abstract things, furniture with legs that weren't straight, lots of just black and white, and she was into Kraftwerk. At the time I couldn't wrap my young brain around what I was hearing, but I enjoyed the catchy rhythms. It wasn't until much later that I learned how important they were. Dudes have been around forever, check out this 4th song from their 1st release in 19 fucking 70... Kraftwerk - Vom Himmel Hoch This is perhaps their best known tune...

With the release of my electro-comp, I've still got industrial on the brain (heavily as in a giant lead block's worth), but more specifically I have found a cubby hole in that broad genre, by way of something called Power Noise (aka, Rhythmic Noise, Noize, Distorted Beat Music). Blowing me away right now and to think that it all began with the almighty Spanish... Esplendor Geometrico - Motores ...quite a bit later in the early 90's another forefather of the genre from Belgium... Dive - There's No Hope ...not to long after that, from Germany... Asche - Move! ...and also from Germany... Morgenstern - Into the Great Glacier ...back to Belgium in the late 90's... Axiom - Hâve ...Canadians 1996... Orphx - Sepsis ...into the 00s, a bit more ambient... Iszoloscope - Phobos II ...another 00s, with a techno edge... Nocore - Nocore Rave ...starts out neo-classical and then... Antigen Shirt - Bio Emperative ...I really could go on and on, but you're better off sampling these and then going and buying their shit. A great place to start would be Ant Zen.I will leave it though with one I just discovered with an atmospheric ambient bent... Dead Fortress - The Garrison are Dead

Scab Queen - Live @ Maker Fest 2014 (08.09.14)

Going back to that Martyred Heretics theme for a moment, or 28 minutes 42 seconds to be exact, I bring you one of the acts from said comp, Scab Queen. I've been sitting on this one for a while, too long really, so this isn't fresh like an apple picked from the tree, it's more like your Grandma's apple pie, it;s nice listening to it again after a couple of months. I fricken love live Industrial music. It's like the difference between working out with free weights versus on the machines, a guy has the chance to really show his moxie in a live performance, it's balls to the wall, right out there for everyone to see. Michael, the man behind Scab Queen, is an expert at making a glorious racket, ambient, abstract, avante garde-ness. When you give this thing a listen, do your pal Mustard a solid and think of me at the 9:24 mark, the perfect soundtrack to scene in a Lovecraft story. I think what I love most about Scab Queen, is that they are about as far away from Pop music as you can get, I've only just started to appreciate and admire it.

Tom Araya - Looks That Kill

Still waiting on the Martyred Heretics CDr to come back from the manufacturer and in the meantime was neglecting the Relics. Will be posting up again when I have those bad boys in my greedy little hands but had to break the silence and share something that I thought was real skippy. Tom Araya of Slayer doing the vocals for a cover of My favorite Motley Crue tune (God I hated that band in the 80s), "Looks That Kill". The Youtube clip descriptions says "Rehearsal clip from Nov 1983 w/Tom Araya on vocals Dimitri Galeos & John Araya on Guitar Al Messi on Bass & Jake Alvarado on drums..." Fucking beautiful. Having spent a fair share of my time rehearsing with a band (to no avail, no matter how hard I practiced, I still sucked), I can't begin to tell you how cool what is going on in this vid is...
