Brents T.V. - Lumberjack Days 7"

I didn't figure on getting too many comments on that last one due to it's obscurity, unless you were familiar with Norwegian bands.  This one is about the same, unless you lived in Humboldt during the late 80's early 90's, or you are a Lookout Records fan.  Filth was a good band on that label that I'll have to post sometime but Operation Ivy, hands down, was their best band.  I won't get into that though.

BTV1 BTV2 There's not a whole lot more I have as far as the Humboldt category but here's another one.  Actually I still have a few tricks up my sleeve in the Humboldt, California category.  Must have seen these guys a hundred times, whether it was playing with them or seeing them at a party, a gig, or doing their thing at the laundry mat.  I have to admit, they weren't what I was into at the time, but I knew they were good, if you know what I'm saying.  I remember these guys were big time Billy Childish fans and to this day I have now clue who that is.  One of the hardest working bands around during that time and they really had themselves a following.  Without being insulting I hope, these guys were art fag to the core.  They looked like early 60's fraternity guys with horn rimmed glasses, corduroy jackets, khaki pants and big leather dress shoes.  The music kind of reminds me of the early 60's too, just sped up a bit.  I could never tell if they were being serious because they were always so silly.  Super nice guys, but I was probably closest to Quitty (even played in a band with him for a minute).  He wrote a couple songs for us about the same time when we were doing the Garden Weasel thing (Soap Scum and Stoner Fetus).  He played in several other bands but I can't remember which.  This was engineered by Kevin Army and released in May of 1990.  It was produced by Larry Livermore, but I never really could get into that guy.  I was pretty opinionated back then and he was kind of a trip.  I guess now that I'm the same age he was back then, I'm kind of trippy too.  This may still be available from Lookout but I doubt these guys are still getting checks from the label, and the label is doing fine with their lame early Green Day stuff.  Give this a listen and if you don't like it, listen to it again and imagine the guitars are distorted and the drummer has a kick drum.  Actually it really is good stuff if you're willing to step out of your hardcore, metal or whatever shoes.

Lumberjack Days for those of you who don't know was a yearly festival up at HSU.  Basically a big weekend party that every university has in some form or another.  The name would suggest some kind of logging competition you might see on ESPN12, but I can't remember anything like that.  What I do remember is bands playing, we played at least once I think and silly little three legged race type games.  Actually what I remember best is working the Native American booth selling Indian tacos.  I was always the one who cut the onions and other vegetables for some reason.  My bro Alex and I worked that for 2 or 3 years.  A couple years we had our own keg in the booth, but I don't know how good of an idea it was to have a bunch of drunk Indians serving you food.  For a couple of years this same group of natives had a softball team but we had trouble playing because half the team was drunk or in jail.  If you've never had an Indian taco you should they are awesome.   Anyway, here's Brents T.V.

Barn Av Regnbuen - Helter Og Skurker flexi

bar3Just a quick one here because I really know nothing about this band.  Hardcore from Norway released in 1987 but I think these guys were around several years before this.  I think this may be my only Norwegian record, but I could be wrong, maybe some stuff on a comp or something.  Maybe someone will comment and give more details.  I think I just got it back then because of a good review and because it was a low cost flexi.  On a side note, I checked around and I don't think anyone makes flexis in the US anymore.  I talked to Eva-Tone and they said they have the equipment still but they can't get the material anymore.  What about Europe, anybody know?  I thought it would be cool to put out flexis again, but I'm just a dreamer.  Give this a listen and tell me what you think.  At the very least you will have learned a few Norwegian words, right "folk". Cheech And Chong

ps1 ps2 All that's left is to pick up the debris and take them to the burn pit, unless someone wants some free firewood.

This post is for The Pope and Erich.  Cheech and Chong don't get along these days either.  Happy June yall, time to turn on the air conditioner, ha ha ha.

Cheech And Chong I was a big time fan of these guys from a very young age and still am.  I was probably too young to be listening to their albums or watching their movies, but I knew what was up.  The 70's were an odd time being stuck between the 60's and 80's.  It seemed like everybody was doing dope of some kind at that time and in my neighborhood a lot of vatos looked like Cheech.  Hollywood was filled with guys that looked like Chong.  Today people would probably say these guys encouraged or at least condoned drug use, but I always felt what they were doing was total satire based on reality.  They may have been dopers but even dopers have the ability to laugh at themselves and it's not until you leave that kind of lifestyle that you see how truly ridiculous it all is.  By the same token if you haven't been there you have no reason talking about it.  These guys were really unto themselves back then and I really have no one to compare them to from this time period.  Maybe Richard Prior or George Carlin in a sort of way.  In their movies, Rock and Roll High School or Spinal Tap?  This 7" was released in 1974 and I apologize because the B-side, which is a short comedy skit with the same title, was too scratched up to play without running the risk of ruining my needle.  This is early punk rock in my opinion and that's the direction they went with it in the movie Up In Smoke made in 1978, about the time I got into these guys.  I read this interview with Chong here, http://www.hobotrashcan.com/interviews/tommychong.php , but I don't know what to make of him.  Is he a laid back hippy type, is he a little slow or is he just burned out.  I'm kind of leaning towards laid back and cool.  If you dug Cheech and Chong give me a shout out because I don't think I'm alone in being a fan of these guys.
