Another badass record from the Wardance Records camp (thanx Freddy!), this time in association with another badass label, Radio Raheem Records. One of three Sacrilege's from the mid 80's, this being the most obscure one, outta New York. As Freddy put it, "this recording has been a pet project of mine for the longest time." WR & RRR have done the world a service by giving these two demos to us and putting them in their rightful place, on vinyl. Only 600 pressed, and word is they're almost sold out. The packaging is nice, relevant art, live band photo (so you can see who you're dealing with), two inserts, one with lyrics and the other with flyers and band member reflections. With this kind of complete packaging it sets the stage for some serious aural stimulation. The first couple of seconds are a little warbled telling you it's straight from cassette, but for the next 46 you get your mind blown. The first side, the Don Fury Demo, is like Discharge only dirtier, with a first generation New York hardcore punk twist. This is no "Dis" band though, no more than any other band playing this style way back in 85. What makes it so crazy is the scene these guys were playing in, was not this band. Hardcore, straightedge, skinhead and then...what the fuck. They would have fit in a lot better in the LA of SF scenes, but this is decidedly a New York band, and as such they make the perfect anomaly. Now if side one was dirty, side two is fucking filthy. Almost two totally different bands and shit, these guys were only around for a little over a year. According to the band these tunes were never played live (and they really only played live about 10 times). Side two, the Bolt Studio Demo, is just plain evil, sinister. In a conversation we had, Freddy said, "blackened metal HC thing 27 years before everyone else". Venom, Sodom, Hellhammer, inspired, with a definite hardcore edge, you know what I'm talking about. It seems like playing a little bit longer together the band is bit more on the same page, everybody is doing their part and I love how the band continues rocking while the guitar player goes off on these eerie, soulful tangents/solos. I really like side one, but side two, is this decades old secret, a dinosaur rising out of a tar pit. And what's crazy about this whole thing is you have members of Agnostic Front and Reagan Youth, who are visiting another planet. Overall this is a must get and if it sells out, I'll see if I can get permission to post it in it's entirety. Thanx to Freddy for getting me this copy, and to Wardance Records and Radio Raheem Records for putting this thing in it's rightful place.
